PhotoRumors has leaked pictures of the new Fujifilm LX mirrorless interchangeable lens camera. Like any leaked picture, I wouldn’t get too excited or upset over what you’re seeing. Often these pictures could be fake, or design changes will take place before release, often with improvements. Fuji made a big statement with their X100 camera, and more recently their X10, so it’s going to be exciting to see if FujiFilm will debut this camera at the 2012 CES show in Vegas in January.

Here is the camera Steve Huff and many expected to hate, but it appears that the Nikon V1 has a few tricks up it’s sleeve. The odds have always been against Nikon since the V1′s announcement so it’s interesting to see that Steve has given the camera his approval.

“The fact is that the V1 is a JOY to shoot! Worry free. Never failing. Even the NEX-7 misses the AF occasionally. This Nikon V1 NEVER MISSED ONE SHOT as far as AF goes. So it all came down to the IQ (image quality). If that fell apart and the resulting images looked like a cheap P&S (point and shoot) then forget it”.

PRESS RELEASE

LEICA CAMERA OFFERS FIRMWARE UPDATE 1.174 FOR THE LEICA M9 AND M9-P

Allendale, NJ (November 14, 2011) - Leica Camera, Inc. is pleased to announce the latest firmware update, 1.174, for the Leica M9 and M9-P, the world’s smallest, full-frame digital system cameras. Users wishing to benefit from the new offerings can now download the firmware update from the Leica Camera website and take advantage of new, improved features.

Firmware update 1.174 features an update of the SD card driver, fixing a bug that led to faulty behavior and allowing for a more stable general performance with most SD card types. Supporting Leica’s commitment to an uncompromised customer experience, these latest improvements come as the result of feedback from M9 and M9-P users who served as beta testers in a broad based field test.

At this time, Leica does not recommend utilizing the San Disk Extreme Pro UHS-1 (all card sizes) and San Disk Extreme HD Video SDHC 1 (all card sizes) as a 100% error free status has not been achieved. Support for these cards continues to be developed by Leica’s dedicated technical team and will be made available after successful testing compatibility.

For installation instructions and to download firmware update 1.174, please visit: http://en.leica-camera.com/service/downloads/software-_firmwareupdates/m9/index.html.

About the Leica M9 and M9-P:

As the world’s first digital rangefinder camera with a 24 x 36 sensor, the Leica M9 carries the proud heritage of the Leica M system into the digital age. A truly professional camera for authentic Leica M photography in the familiar, classic and timeless M design, the M9 is the perfect contemporary tool for those who set the highest standard in image quality and are committed to creating images of enduring value. The Leica M9-P provides an alternative, even more discreet and resilient design that further reinforces the classic nature of the M9 and specifically meets the needs of professional photographers. The M9 and M9-P are compatible with nearly every Leica M lens in existence.

Quantum Instruments are well known for their array of incredible compact studio style flashes. One flash they’ve been lacking is the ringflash which they have just announced. The new Omicron has the ability to be used as a flash strobe or a continuous light source for video or still usage. I’m quite excited about the possibilities of using the contant light for use with stills, more so than the flash itself. The best news is that it’s powered by their own battery packs which many photographers already own, including myself. Read on for more information. Kristian

Today Zeiss have announced their new Distagon T* 2/25 in Canon ZE and Nikon ZF.2 mounts. They’ve thrown in another stop of light for those seeking to use this in low light or for creative applications where the f/2 aperture will allow shallower depth of field. The 25mm focal length has always had an incredible reputation amongst Zeiss users so I suspect many will be very excited to see if it still retains all the qualities of the previous f/2.8 version, with an extra stop of light.

Usually when lenses receive an extra stop of light certain compromises need to be made, and sometimes image quality can suffer. It’s taken Zeiss many years to upgrade the 25mm lens so I’m betting they’ll blow us away. In terms of competition, they’re still a stop behind their faster competitors in the Nikon AF-S 24mm f/1.4G and Canon EF 24mm f/1.4L lenses, but I’m confident the performance wide open will be incredible.

As soon as we can get our hands on a test sample, we’ll be sure to post our findings….

PRESS RELEASE

Thornwood, New York – October 27, 2011
Carl Zeiss presents the Distagon T* 2/25 ZE and ZF.2 moderate wide- angle lenses. The large image angle allows photographers to capture exciting perspectives. With its excellent imaging quality at all aperture settings, the lens flexes its muscles particularly for photo documentaries in interior rooms where space is at a premium, as well as for pictures of objects, architecture and landscapes. In many situations, a flash is an unwelcome feature – at family gatherings, in a museum or in a church for example. To capture the mood in such places, photographers gladly do without aggressive lighting and instead work with particularly high-speed lenses that enable short exposure times even under difficult lighting conditions.

The optical experts have now virtually eliminated the chromatic aberrations on these lenses through a special design and selection of materials. Selected types of glass and two aspheric surfaces prevent color fringes from appearing on high-contrast edges. “The Distagon T* 2/25 elegantly combines a compact design with a large initial aperture,” explains Christian Bannert, Senior Director of Product Development in the Camera Lens Division at Carl Zeiss AG.

Lens elements meticulously crafted to minimize stray light and reflections in the lens, and the Carl Zeiss T* anti-reflective coating to increase light transmission enable high- contrast image rendition and color saturation.

The previously available Distagon T* 2,8/25 ZF.2 will continue to be on stock and supplements the new Distagon T* 2/25. Therefore, this new lens is also the first 25-mm lens of Carl Zeiss for the EF-bayonet.

The Distagon T* 2/25 will be available by the end of 2011 at a recommended retail price of $1,699.

The terrible flooding is continuing to have an effect on the production of camera manufacturers operating in Thaliand. While it’s sad to see this happening and causing further delays in getting the cameras we lust for, lets not forget the Thai people who are affected the most. Bangkok airport has not been closed, which will surely affect the tourism industry that many Thais rely on for their livelihood. Our thoughts and prayers go out to them all.
